The pre-APO Summicron is a compact 5-element telephoto design by Walter Mandler; the later barrel has a two-piece telescoping hood and E55 thread in place of the Series VII fitting. It gives a slight glow at f/2 and a calm, rounded background, then sharpens up well by f/2.8. It is a much cheaper alternative to the 80mm Summilux for portraits.
