The 1976 redesign uses 6 elements in 4 groups, a built-in sliding hood and an E55 thread, and at 290 g it is lighter than the Series VI original. It is the cheapest way into the Leica R look: sharp in the centre from f/2 with restrained contrast and warm colour. It was sold as 3-cam, R-only and later ROM, all of which behave identically on an adapter.
