Seven elements in five groups, a Gauss-Sonnar hybrid with a floating close-range correction group. Resolution is already high at f/1.4 with fine-line rendering and smooth, non-doubled background blur; backlit edges can show a little red longitudinal colour. It has 9 blades, a 72mm front, stops down only to f/16, and a 125-degree focus throw.

What it goes on

F-mount's 46.5mm flange takes a thin glassless adapter to Canon EF and adapts to every mirrorless mount; the aperture ring is fully mechanical and easy to de-click. The portrait cornerstone of cine-modded AI-S sets; at 620g with a 72mm thread it takes an 80mm front ring cleanly. Leitax offers the EF mount swap.
