A 14-element rectilinear ultra-wide with close-range correction, a fixed petal hood and a bulging front element that rules out front filters; filtration is via small bayonet filters at the rear. Straight lines stay impressively straight for the era, but corners are soft until stopped down and the exposed front element throws ghosts when a light source is in or near frame. Focus throw is a very short 50 degrees and, like all Nikkors, the ring turns the opposite way to cine lenses.

What it goes on

F-mount's 46.5mm flange takes a thin glassless adapter to Canon EF and adapts to every mirrorless mount; the aperture ring is fully mechanical and easy to de-click. With no front thread and a 90mm barrel it will not take a standard 80mm cine front or screw-in NDs, so plan on a clamp-on matte box or a drop-in filter adapter on mirrorless bodies.
