Soviet retrofocus wide (6 elements in 5 groups) related to the Zeiss Flektogon 35/2.8; the original Mir-1 took a Grand Prix at the 1958 Brussels Expo, which is why many barrels carry that engraving. The 'B' (Cyrillic В) marks Vologda (VOMZ) production, though KMZ, ZOMZ and Arsenal also built Mir-1 variants. It renders with moderate contrast, a hint of swirl in busy backgrounds and soft corners wide open, with an 8-blade preset iris. It is the natural wide companion to a Helios 44-2 set.

What it goes on

Glassless M42 adapter to EF or any mirrorless body; the preset aperture is stepless, so no declicking is needed. Many copies have an M49x0.5 front thread rather than the modern 0.75 pitch, so standard 49 mm filters and step-up rings may bind — check before forcing. The 0.7 m minimum focus is a limitation for wide close-ups; IronGlass rehouses it as part of its Soviet MKII set.
