KMZ Zenitar-M 16mm f/2.8 Fisheye

Compact KMZ diagonal fisheye (10 elements in 7 groups, 6 blades) covering 180° across the full-frame diagonal. It is multicoated but the exposed front dome still flares and ghosts readily, which is part of its appeal for music-video and skate work. No front filter is possible; small M26.5x0.5 filters screw into the rear and one must stay fitted because it is part of the optical path. Published weights range from about 294 to 310 g. Also sold in K, Nikon and EF mounts.

What it goes on

Glassless M42 adapter to EF or mirrorless; on Super 35/APS-C it becomes a moderately distorted ~24 mm-equivalent wide rather than a true fisheye, so a focal reducer is popular to get the full effect back. The M version has an auto-aperture pin, so use a flanged adapter. Keep the rear filter installed or infinity focus and sharpness shift.

  M42-EOS flanged ring. Cheap and common. Pick a flanged ring that presses the auto-aperture pin. On full-frame EF DSLRs a few lenses (Helios 44-2, some Takumars) can catch the mirror at infinity.
