Small, slow and well behaved: the later seven-element 28mm is sharper and flatter than its modest aperture suggests, and the multi-coating keeps veiling flare in check against windows and practicals. It shares the 49mm thread and buttery helicoid of the normal Takumars, so it slots into a matched set without fuss. The f/3.5 stop is the limit for low light work.

What it goes on

M42's 45.46mm flange means a cheap glassless ring puts it on EF and every mirrorless mount. Set the A/M switch to M for manual iris. The rear of the lens sits shallow enough that mirror clearance is rarely reported as a problem, but check on full-frame EF bodies at infinity.
