Nine-element retrofocus wide and the widest Takumar most video shooters actually carry. Centre sharpness is good from wide open while the corners stay soft and vignetted until f/8, which reads as period character rather than a flaw on moving images. The 58mm front breaks the 49mm filter standard of the rest of the set, so a matched kit needs step-up rings. Close focus of 25cm makes it useful for wide inserts.

What it goes on

M42's 45.46mm flange means a cheap glassless ring puts it on EF and every mirrorless mount. Flip the A/M switch to M (or use an adapter with an inner flange that presses the pin) so the iris follows the ring. Popular on Super 35 and speed-boosted MFT as a roughly 35mm-equivalent.
