Pentax Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 35mm f/2

The compact 49mm-thread redesign of the 35/2 (the first Super-Takumar version was a much bigger lens with a 67mm front). It contains thoriated glass, so most copies have browned to a tea-coloured cast that costs around a stop and shifts white balance; a few days under a UV lamp or on a sunny windowsill clears it. Wide open there is a veil of glow over a sharp core, tightening up by f/2.8. It is the speed wide of the Takumar set and priced accordingly.

What it goes on

M42's 45.46mm flange means a cheap glassless ring puts it on EF and every mirrorless mount. Use the A/M switch for stop-down iris. Buy on the colour of the glass as much as the cosmetics, or budget time for a UV treatment before matching it to the rest of a set.
