Shares its nine-element, eight-group floating-element layout with the Zeiss Distagon 28/2 that earned the 'Hollywood' nickname, a product of the Pentax and Zeiss cooperation of the mid 1970s. It renders with more bite and saturation than any Takumar, and the floating group keeps it sharp down to 30cm. Short production run and the Zeiss connection make it the priciest classic Pentax wide. The later Pentax-M and -A 28/2 are different, smaller designs.

What it goes on

K mount shares the 45.46mm flange of M42, so it adapts to EF with a thin ring and to any mirrorless body with ease. On full-frame EF the aperture lever and its guard can catch the mirror box and are often trimmed; a K adapter must also hold the lever or the iris stays shut at the minimum stop. No such worries on mirrorless.
