Successor to the 1975 S.S.C. Aspherical and one of the first f/1.4 wide-angles with a ground aspheric. It shares its optical lineage with the Canon K35 cinema primes, which is why it commands K35-adjacent prices and is a frequent rehousing donor. Wide open it blooms gently on highlights while staying usable in the centre.

Commonly rehoused (K35-style) or given an EdMika EF mount; on full-frame EF DSLRs check mirror clearance before shooting through the viewfinder. Glassless on all mirrorless mounts.

  EdMika FD-EF conversion kit (no glass). FD sits 2 mm closer than EF, so a plain adapter loses infinity and glass adapters soften the image. The accepted fix is replacing the mount (EdMika) — or using a mirrorless body, where FD adapts trivially.
