Ten-element retrofocus wide that first appeared as an S.S.C. lens in 1973 and was repackaged in the lighter New FD barrel. Corners sharpen noticeably by f/5.6; wide open it has the gentle vignette people buy FD glass for. The 72 mm thread makes it an outlier in a set that otherwise standardises on 52 mm.

What it goes on

FD sits at a 42 mm flange, 2 mm shorter than EF, so a plain EF adapter loses infinity unless it carries a corrective glass element; the clean fix is a permanent mount swap (EdMika kits, also sold through Simmod). On Sony E, L, RF, Z, X and MFT bodies a simple tube adapter with an aperture-release ring works with no glass.

  EdMika FD-EF conversion kit (no glass). FD sits 2 mm closer than EF, so a plain adapter loses infinity and glass adapters soften the image. The accepted fix is replacing the mount (EdMika) — or using a mirrorless body, where FD adapts trivially.
