Aspherical eight-element successor to the 55mm Aspherical, and noticeably better corrected at f/1.2 than the non-L 50mm f/1.2. Wide open it has a thin veil of glow over a sharp core, cleaning up by f/2. One of the anchor lenses of the "poor man's K35" FD L set.

Mount-conversion vendors flag the New FD 50 mm f/1.2 and f/1.4 as live-view-only on full-frame EF DSLRs because the rear of the lens sits in the mirror path; on mirrorless bodies it needs only a tube adapter.

  EdMika FD-EF conversion kit (no glass). FD sits 2 mm closer than EF, so a plain adapter loses infinity and glass adapters soften the image. The accepted fix is replacing the mount (EdMika) — or using a mirrorless body, where FD adapts trivially.
