Second New FD version with seven elements in six groups and rear/internal focusing, so the barrel does not extend and focus is light. The 1979 first version is a five-element unit-focus lens that only reaches 1.8 m. No low-dispersion glass, so expect purple/green fringing on backlit edges wide open.

What it goes on

FD sits at a 42 mm flange, 2 mm shorter than EF, so a plain EF adapter loses infinity unless it carries a corrective glass element; the clean fix is a permanent mount swap (EdMika kits, also sold through Simmod). On Sony E, L, RF, Z, X and MFT bodies a simple tube adapter with an aperture-release ring works with no glass. Support the lens rather than the adapter on small mirrorless mounts.
