Covers full frame; optically related to Canon's aspherical 55mm f/1.2 stills design. Known for "onion ring" textured bokeh from the hand-polished aspherical element. Close focus is quoted anywhere from 20in to 2ft in TLS housings; the longer value is used. Canon's 1970s answer to the Zeiss Super Speeds, recognised with an Academy Scientific and Technical award in 1977; the rehoused iris gives rounder bokeh than the originals. What it goes on

Most working sets are TLS rehousings in PL (110mm fronts, cam focus); GL Optics and P+S Technik have housed them too. Original barrels came in BNCR and Arri bayonet and were commonly PL-converted; being cine mounts they do not adapt usefully to stills bodies other than via PL adapters.
